5e barbarian toem wolf1/7/2024 ![]() Warlock is the obvious choice for an arcane spellcaster looking to abuse Elven Accuracy. Arcane Spellcaster: Drow Hexblade Warlock I’m going to stick to the classic cleric/fighter/rogue/wizard archetype where we have a divine spellcaster (usually a cleric or druid), a front-line martial character serving as a Defender (usually a barbarian, fighter, or paladin), a martial character serving as a Striker (usually a monk, ranger, or rogue), and an arcane spellcaster (usually a bard, sorcerer, wizard, or warlock). ![]() Since it’s going to be important later: The odds of rolling a 19 or higher are ~27%, while the odds of rolling a 20 are ~14%. ![]() In 5e’s bounded math, players are expected to succeed on average CR-appropriate challenges on a roll of 8 or higher, which means that for an average CR-appropriate foe, you’re going to hit ~95% of the time. If you flatten that math onto a d20 scale (which is easy to conceptualize), that means that a 2 or higher on our flattened scale would be at least a 10. With Advantage and Elven Accuracy, a character will roll an 8 or higher ~95% of the time. ThinkDM was kind enough to do the math about two years ago, so I won’t reproduce it here, but here are some highlights. So, where I originally intended to create a single build, I ended up building a whole party around Elven Accuracy. I had one of those idle moments where you’re sitting around and character ideas start racing through your brain, and I thought “I wonder how much I could abuse Elven Accuracy?” Among other things, it allows you to roll three dice when rolling with Advantage (there’s some nuance to the text, but essentially that’s what it means). Great Weapon Master is also a Barbarian essential because it allows the player to take a -5 penalty when rolling their attack and on a successful hit they can add +10 to their damage total.DnD 5e has a feat called Elven Accuracy. Grappler is perfect for holding onto enemies and wailing on them with advantage in close quarters, and a second grapple check can be made in order to pin the target and restrain it so it can't escape. The Durable feat can increase the Barbarian's already massive pool of hit points by doubling the CON modifier each time they level up. This feat also grants advantage to attacks if the Barbarian scores a critical hit with a melee weapon, increasing their odds of obliterating an enemy before the end of their turn. STR or CON can be increased by +1, and once per turn a creature hit with a melee attack can push that creature five feet to an unoccupied space. It also doesn't hurt to boost Wisdom for this particular Barbarian because it will strengthen their connection to the natural world around them through important skills like Animal Handling, Survival, Perception, Insight, and Medicine.Ĭrusher is another powerful feat that goes hand in hand with the kind of strength an animal spirit guardian might provide. Since Barbarians tend to be rather large in many cases, they may appear awkward and clumsy, but a decent DEX modifier will make them Stealthier and more limber. DEX works well with their Athleticism, too, determining how graceful their movements and attacks are. Because of this, CON determines how well they stand in the face of physical adversities - even their own alcohol consumption after a hard night of partying in the local tavern.Īfter STR and CON, focus on Dexterity, which boosts their armor class, especially when they are unarmored. ![]() CON also heavily bolsters the Totem Warrior's pool of hit points, a d12 roll + their CON modifier, effectively giving them one of the highest hit point pools in the entire party. Constitution is also important because it powers a Barbarian's fortitude against effects like exhaustion, poisoning, grappling, stunning and restraining.
